: Inspector general (RPF) PK Agrawal has said that Railway Police Force ( RPF) will soon appoint 17,000 new security personnel to meet the shortage of work force. Agrawal, who was in Tatanagar to inspect the security arrangements, talking to the newsmen said that 10 per cent of the new recruits will be women.

He also went on to inform that long distance trains will also have lady RPF personnel as escort for looking after the security of women passengers on the trains. He informed that the deployment of lady RPF personal has already begun in the train on an experiment basis upto Rourkela.

Agrawal said apart from that the measure to make the train journey more female-friendly, the RPF is taking several other steps which include setting up an integrated security system at the Tatanagar station.

RPF IG, who was on his routine visit convened a crime review meeting with senior officials, said that the security would be heightened up soon.

“We are keeping a strict vigil in the areas falling under railways. Additional security personnel would be deployed on the trains moving on Tatanagar-Howrah route”, said Agrawal.

However he further said that lack of adequate security forces is a matter of concern and fresh appointments need to be made.

He pointed out that they would install as many as 126 CCTV cameras in and outside the station so as to check the entry of suspected elements like a militant or an extremist with explosives.

He said in the first phase 91 CCTV cameras are being installed, the work of which is expected to be over by the end of next week and in the second phase the remaining cameras will be installed.

“At the entry point, there will be sophisticated scanners which will detect the objectionable things carried by anyone,” said the IG, RPF. Later in the afternoon he went over to the Adityapur railway station, where he spent over two hours in making the inspection.
