Jamshedpur, May 30: Banking operations in Kolhan were hit on Wednesday as 1 lakh employees from 500 banks of Kolhan Division, went on two-day strike to protest against a “meagre” 2% salary hike offered by Indian Banks Association (IBA)—the management body. According to reports, transactions worth Rs 400 crore were hit.
On Wednesday morning, bank employees took to streets after and protested against the move of the government. They sat before the main gate of the banks and shouted slogans. The bank strike also supported by employees of some old generation private sector banks and foreign banks, will continue on Thursday.
There are more than 100 bank branches in West Singhbhum district where the total employees are more than 35 thousand.
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has demanded expeditious and early wage revision settlement. Also, the wage revision settlement should include all officers up to Scale VII.UFBU is an umbrella body of various bank unions like AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, INBOC, NOBW and NOBO.
