New Delhi : T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship, first ever truck racing championship in India by Tata Motors, was held on 23rd March last at Buddha International Circuit, Greater Noida. This racing championship had drivers from the British Truck Racing Championship and the European Truck Racing Championship.

Two times British Truck Racing champion, Steve Horne also participated in the event. All these trucks were manufactured in the Jamshedpur plant. The trucks were built as per guidelines of British Truck Racing Championship Association to provide maximum safety and performance. These Prima truck had a massive power of 370 bhp @ 2100 rpm and a top speed of 110 kmph.

There were twelve Prima trucks which were divided into six teams having two trucks each. The teams participating were Castrol Vecton, Cummins, Tata Technologies Motor Sports, Dealer Daredevils, Dealer Warriors and Allied Partners.

Experienced British racer Stuart Oliver, representing Castrol Vecton, emerged winner at the inaugural Tata T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship at Buddh International Circuit. The ten-time British Truck Racing Champion took 30:26.848 minutes to complete 15 laps of the 2.5 km loop on the 5.1km-long BIC track. Starting from pole, the 50-year-old staved off stiff challenge from Mathew Summerfield (30:31.522 mins) of Team Cummins who overtook his opponent early.

Summerfield, who started fourth on the grid, was passed by Oliver in the eighth lap. David Jenkins, who raced for Tata Technologies Motor Sports, finished third with time of 30:32.413 minutes among 12 contestants.

Oliver maintained his grip on the race as he started to increase his lead and finished 4.674 seconds ahead of nearest rival. “It’s really amazing to win this inaugural edition race. The competition was very close as everyone had the same vehicle. It’s about holding onto your nerves,” said Oliver.

This inaugural event showcased the capability of Tata Motors in the Trucking Industry that it has built over years and is surely one more feather in their cap and a huge proud moment for its customers, employees and partners.
