Jamshedpur, Jan 1: Tata Steel is likely to commission the first phase of its six million tonne (MT) plant in Kalinganagar, Odisha in the financial year 2014-15.

“We should commission the first phase of our 6 MT steel plant in Kalinganagar in Odisha in the financial year 2014-15, ” Managing Director, Tata Steel India & SEA T V Narendran said today while addressing the media on the sidelines of the cake cutting ceremony on the occasion of New Year at Centre For Excellence.

The work on the first phase of the project is in full swing and as per information, the plant is the largest ongoing single location investment with the first integrated greenfield project for the company outside Jamshedpur.
The 6 MT project is divided into two units of 3 MT each and will produce flat steel products for the automobile industry.

Talking further Narendran said that despite all odds, his company has grown at 10 to 12 % over last year and as the markets are picking up we would see more improvement in the sector and January-June is the best time of year, so we are hoping for as great year ahead.

MD wished Happy New Year to the residence of Jamshedpur and promised to grow and bring in excellent infrastructure facilities to the city and appealed the citizens to be a part of development and help the company in beautifying Steel city. Narendran appealed the citizens of Jamshedpur don’t litter waste in and around public places like parks and all and advised them to throw it in the dustbins.

MD believed that the roads of the city are in a bad condition and hoped Jusco takes up the responsibility and completes the work as soon as possible.

MD TV Narendran added that the company is getting full cooperation from administration and government for the development of the city. Parking is a big problem and company is looking for a space to built parking lots in the city.

We are hoping to bring Jamshedpur back on the cultural map, added TV Narendran. On the occasion Sunil Bhaskaran Dy. VP (Corporate Services) Tata Steel, Chief Corporate Communication Kulvin Suri and other officials of the company were present.

Apart from this TV Narendran also participated in cake cutting ceremony at Stellium Hall, Jusco, TMH, Workers General office, SNTI Hall, JRD Sports Complex, ITS Building and MD office.
