Jamshedpur : The Jharkhand State Khadi and Gramodyog Board will soon open a designing centre at Jamshedpur by the end of this year.

The chairman of the board, Jainandu, addressing press conference here today said that the centre will be first-of-its-kind in the state. “It is our ambitious project and we are looking forward to make it success.

The centre will produce apparel for both men and women like designer kurtas, sherwanis, shirts, kurtis and other ladies garments,” said Jainandu adding that the idea is to promote designer khadi products among the young generation.

He revealed that the board which is also promoting herbal products will soon launch three variants of ‘atta’ which will reduce risk of diabetes, cholestrol in heart and prove effective in weight management.

The board will also launch three variants of caffeine free tea which will be available in three variants next week.

He went on to inform that the board has also announced that all types of handloom fabrics will come with 30 percent discount as part of the festive offer.

The exemption is in view of festive season, cotton, silk and fabrics, including Uni carpet, blankets and carpets, etc., will be given. The exemption will be in the showroom of Khadi Board.

“We are working hard to promote the rural artisans and craftsmen. Khadi board wants to make the small entrepreneurs and labourers self sufficient,” said Jainandu. He went on to add : ” We are hopeful that large number of people would be benefited under these schemes. People would be educated about the benefits of the schemes.

The khadi board, which was formed in 2004, four years after Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar — without capital, infrastructure and even a signage, today has a network of outlets across the state and the country.
