Jamshedpur, Feb 18: Interacting with the members of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), Chief Commissioner Bihar Jharkhand- Central Excise, Customs, & Service Tax, N K Bhujbal talking about the changes in the format of return said that I agree to the Chambers members suggestion & asked the Chamber to take up the matter with Board, and he shall do the same simultaneously. Talking about service tax on direct remuneration, Bhujabal said that this being a provision in the act, hence no clear commitment was given. But he took a note of the demand, and assured us that he shall forward it to the Board for further guidelines.
On service tax on works contract, Bhujbal requested the members to give written submission, and assured to get back after getting further clarifications.
On submission of hard copy returns, Bhujabal clarified that if proper soft copy has been filled on line, there is no need for a hard copy. In case any officer demands the same, it should be brought to the notice of higher officials.
Talking about the show cause notice based on electricity consumption, Bhujabal agreed that there are anomalies in this demand. He shall check from other commission arêtes, from across the country whether the same practice for assessing these Induction Furnaces are being followed, and based on them a decision would be taken.
Also present on the occasion Commissioner Jamshedpur J K Jha mentioned that there are issues which are clear as per the law, and some are ambiguous as per the law. Matters which are not clear needs to be adjudicated by courts, and matters that are clear can be cleared across the table. He informed that a help desk is working for the facilitation of the assesses, and the businessmen can avail its help.
N K Bhujabal concluded the session. He fully agreed with the president that Tax collection should be like collection of honey from the flower. He reiterated that the department is fully with the business community, specially the small sector. He would like to see the small sector to grow without hindrances, so that their contribution increases.
