Jamshedpur : The subscribers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) are having a tough time dealing with the dropping of phone calls and poor network of mobile phones and modems.
Despite complaints pouring in at the BSNL offices across the city, the problem is still persisting. The BSNL authorities concerned are least interested in solving the problems of subscribers it seems.
The BSNL staff is neglecting their duties despite urgent calls being made by the subscribers. This is seriously hampering the work of a large number of people in the city.
“I have no choice left but to shift to another subscriber. Though I have been using BSNL from past one decade nut recently I am facing connectivity problems a number of times,” said Radhika Kumari, a teacher in Sakchi.
Another subscriber said that he was using BSNL for its broadband services but of late the speed of internet has also slow down.
” There seems to be some serious problem. May be optical fibre cable (OFC) got damaged somewhere, causing link problem. A team of technical officials are busy in detecting it. We hope the service will restore shortly,” said a senior technical staff.
Despite several attractive schemes launched by the BSNL, the number of subscribers continues to decrease in the steel city. In 2005, the number of subscribers was 1.1 lakh. It got down to 75,000 in the year 2012 and the number of subscribers is now is 40,870 only.
According to sources in the BSNL, the number of BSNL subscribers by January 31 this year, 42,862. By November 30, 2016, the number has come down to 40,870, suggesting that every year about 2,000 customers are surrendering their connection.
Sanjeev Verma, general manager, BSNL’s Jamshedpur SSA said admitted that there was some link problem in certain area of the city and the problem will be sorted out shortly.
The BSNL staff maintains that the telephone exchanges are not being properly maintained and the incident of OFCs are also not being attended to by the BSNL authority here, resulting in the poor service.
“Our customers had been complaining of poor network in the rural areas. So we decided to target the fringe areas to improve network. We are working installation of new towers we will be in a position to dole out more connections and improve our customer base,” another official added.
“We are working hard to provide best of facilities for out customers. We are installing modern technology and identified the locations for new sets of BTS towers and telephone exchange,” he said.
